On the other day, I wrote an article on my Japanese Blog, 3 Ways to expand my business and connect my passions by means of blogging.

That one was shared a lot on Social Media, and luckily I got lots of positive feedbacks.

Although I shared how to make my living off with blogging in the previous post, I want to also share how to use Blog effectively, as a portfolio to express yourself, and seize what you want.

Use It As A Portfolio For Your Profession.

I think this one is easy to imagine for everyone. The process goes like this; Just write some topics related to your profession, get recognised as a “Professional” in your field, and be booked directly through your blog.

For example, I write some informative topics for freelance Translator / Writer / Japanese expat in Germany, and I get inquiries from people who read my blog about these topics.

In my opinion, I feel that blog is even better than a mere CV, because it can express my interests all at once, ranging from my favourite movies to my professions. This helps to give people more intimate and real impression about me, and I feel that people even trust me more than just giving a piece of paper. (People all know exaggerating carrier on CV is kind of manners! )

Another example is one of my friends who is a programmer in Berlin. He could skip the entrance test for a company he is currently working at, because he had a blog with good contents that shows his programming skills enough.

Go To Events For Free As A Press

Whenever I found some interesting events going on, I usually write to PR or Marketing people if I can enter the event for free as a press so that I can promote their event to my Japanese audiences.

at Karajan Music Tech Conference in Salzburg

This worked very well with me, and I enjoy going to the event, do networking and even get a new job or project at the site. This really helps me out with growing my network and possibilities. At the same time, I really enjoy writing about my report on these events, because that’s genuine information based on my own experience, and audiences appreciate this type of article. Of course, this works for me, because I have a good amount of followers, but still I’m not a super blogger who has 1M followers or something.

Last month, I could get a free press ticket for a very interesting event, and saved 600EUR for a normal price ticket. — 600EUR! That’s a lot of money.

Approach Someone You Want To Work With By Promoting Them

There are lots of great companies and great people who are doing great things out there. So, I write about them, and give them a heads-up, saying that I introduce them on my Blog or YouTube, and I’m happy with further collaborations in the future.

For example, I made a video about a new Vegan Icecream called “MADE WITH LUV” with my fellow Translator, Chika who also lives in Germany.

After releasing the video, I wrote them with the YouTube URL, asking if they need any help with Japanese when they promote their product in Japan.

They responded to me very quickly, and said that they will for sure write me once again when they are ready for the marketing in Japan.

with my colleagues, DMM.com in Rome

This project has not yet started, but I have lots of projects like this, and some work very well. This strategy is also good at networking event. If you have a fairly good amount of audience, you can approach someone and offer a promotion on your blog. This will generate some business opportunities, and also you’ll be the person who’s going to involve in that business if you do it right.
